Gemotions

"Almost there," muttered Daniel, his voice a low rumble. He could practically feel the warmth of the sun on his face, the feeling of the textured bark under his fingers, the calming rhythm of the leaves in the breeze. His pace quickened.

A cold stone formed in his stomach. Where the tree should have stood, an ugly gash marred the earth. He felt a strange disconnection, as though he was a ghost watching his own world crumble.

He dropped his bag, his legs almost giving way. He closed his eyes and saw the image of the tree in his mind.
