The ocean breeze kissed his face as he walked along the beach, the sand cool beneath his bare feet. The rhythmic crashing of the waves was a constant, soothing presence. He watched the seagulls circle overhead, their cries lost in the immensity of the sea. It was a perfect day. He liked his simple life.

A shadow fell over him. It was Carol, the girl who had always teased him about his clothes. She was impeccably dressed. He recognized her face, but she looked more tired than he remembered. He said, "You wouldn't happen to be Carol Peterson, would you?"

“Yes. And I’m… seeing a therapist. Are you here?” she replied, slightly breathless. “It’s… really good.” He watched her carefully. He noticed how she wouldn't look him in the eyes. He nodded.
