Gemotions

The gentle sway of the hammock, the soft rustle of the leaves overhead, and the distant buzz of bees – these were the elements that filled David’s afternoon with a delicious calm. He lay there, his eyes closed, the sun warm on his face, a book resting unread on his chest. Every inhale felt like a meditation.

A voice, slightly muffled, broke through his reverie. "David?" It was Mrs. Chen, her voice barely audible.

David carefully sat up, his movements slow and deliberate. "Yes, Mrs. Chen?"

"I… I hate to bother you," she began, looking uncomfortable. "But it's the pine tree… the one on the edge. I'm afraid it's dropping needles all over my garden, and the roots are starting to lift my paving stones. I was wondering if we could talk about maybe removing it?" David let the words pass. The tree was a symbol of strength and it filled his yard.

David slowly pushed himself out of the hammock, his legs heavy. He walked towards the tree, its needles creating a pleasant, earthy scent. The idea of losing the tree was painful. He thought of the wind in the branches, a perfect sound.

"I need some time to consider," he said quietly, his voice gentle. The world was still.
