He opened the door to find a burst of color waiting. A riot of sunflowers and daisies spilled out from a simple brown paper wrapping. No note. He gently lifted the bouquet, its weight surprisingly comforting, and took them inside. His chest eased as he breathed in their fresh, earthy scent.

He set them on the kitchen table, their vibrant yellow a sharp contrast to the muted tones of the room. He spent the next hour simply watching them, the slow dance of the sunlight across the petals. He felt light, as if a weight had lifted from his shoulders.

Later, he'd bake a loaf of bread, the familiar rhythm of kneading the dough a welcome distraction. The aroma filled the house, mingling with the floral perfume, creating a haven of calm.
