The sound of rain against the window was a soothing lullaby. She sat on the window seat, wrapped in a warm blanket, watching the droplets cascade down the glass. The air was cool and crisp, carrying the scent of wet earth. A cup of hot chocolate, with whipped cream, sat on the small table beside her.

The letter, announcing the condo conversion, was a minor annoyance. She glanced at it, then set it aside, the words barely registering. She picked up her cup of hot chocolate. The world outside the window was gray and wet. Inside, she was warm and dry.
