David stood on the balcony, watching the city wake up. The distant sounds of traffic were a low hum, a gentle rhythm to the morning. A light breeze played with his hair, carrying the scent of coffee from the cafe downstairs. A feeling of acceptance washed over him. The world was at peace, and so was he. His phone chimed.

He checked the message: a notification from his former university. A familiar feeling of lightness coursed through him as he opened the email. He'd almost deleted it.
