Gemotions

I gripped the steering wheel so tightly my knuckles were white. My brother, John, had called with the news - he was converting to Sikhism. I drove in circles, the familiar streets of our childhood suddenly alien. The world outside the car blurred. I kept seeing him, the boy I grew up with, the boy who'd shared every secret, every dream. The image of him, now a stranger, filled my mind's eye. I pulled over, my heart hammering against my ribs, and took deep, shuddering breaths.
