The author's note, tucked at the end of the final chapter, explained that all the information was gathered through public records, interviews with "friends and acquaintances," and diligent research. James felt a growing unease. He reread passages, searching for inaccuracies, for a way to discredit the narrative.

He poured himself a stiff drink, then another, the liquor doing little to soothe the growing feeling of pressure in his chest. He flicked through the pages again, the words beginning to swim before his eyes.

He couldn't shake the sensation of being watched, judged, exposed. He wanted to scream.
