“So, you see, the key here is… consistency,” I mumbled, my voice cracking slightly. The young woman, her name was Chloe, watched me with disconcerting attentiveness. I rubbed my palms against my jeans, the fabric offering little comfort. The office felt stifling, the walls closing in around me.

I kept replaying the meeting in my head, the abrupt announcement. It was all a blur. I hadn’t prepared for this. I thought I had more time. The thought of starting again, of learning a new routine, ached deep within me. My head throbbed, a dull and persistent ache.
