He had been enjoying himself, truly. He had been laughing and joking with the groomsmen, congratulating the happy couple. Then, he spotted her, and everything shifted. The warmth drained from his face, replaced by a sudden chill.

The music, previously a pleasant background noise, now felt overwhelming, intrusive. He found himself incapable of formulating coherent thoughts, of maintaining a conversation. He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to flee, to disappear.

He took a step backward, bumping into a waiter carrying a tray of appetizers. The sudden jolt startled him, pulling him out of his reverie. He mumbled an apology and retreated to a corner, feeling a peculiar sensation of being detached from his surroundings.
