The coffee cup trembled in Amelia's hands, a small earthquake in the stillness of her kitchen. Sunlight, usually a welcome guest, felt invasive as it spilled across the linoleum, highlighting every speck of dust. She'd found it, the link, buried deep in a Google search. A blog, “Anonymous Musings,” where someone had painstakingly typed out her teenage diary entries, word for painful word. Her breath hitched.

Her stomach churned, a cold knot tightening with each passing second. She slammed the laptop shut, the sound echoing in the sudden silence. The screen’s black surface reflected her distorted face, wide-eyed and pale. She’d thought those words, those embarrassing confessions, were safely locked away, a buried map of her younger self. Now, they were currency.

She paced the small kitchen, the worn floorboards groaning under her frantic steps. Her phone lay silent on the counter, a digital bomb waiting to detonate. Should she call her best friend, the one whose teenage secrets also lived between the diary’s pages? No. Not yet. She wasn’t ready to speak the words aloud, to give this digital intrusion further life.
