The discovery was a slap across the face. John felt the blood drain from his face, leaving him pale and dizzy. He’d always imagined those pages as a treasure map, charting a path through his adolescent years. Now, it was a map of his undoing, public for all to see.

He wanted to scream, to smash something, to erase the digital evidence, but he was paralyzed. He remained glued to his chair, staring at the screen. His fingers were itching, wanting to grab at the air. He was burning up.

He closed his eyes, fighting back the rising panic. He couldn’t process this right now. He needed to get away, to disappear. He stood up, fumbled for his keys, and bolted out the door.
