“But… but why?” Ben asked, the question escaping his lips as a mere whisper. He felt a strange tingling sensation in his fingertips, as if electricity ran through him. He was supposed to be the guest of honor. He’d imagined the faces, the laughter, the joy. He stared at his phone, the screen offering no answers, only a cold, impersonal message. He felt a strong desire to sit down and rest. He found himself wandering around the house, looking for something to do, but everything felt pointless.
