"So... you're saying..." Alex’s voice trailed off, lost in the echoing emptiness of the apartment. He stared at Ben, who was perched on the edge of the sofa, looking miserable. The air hung thick with unspoken accusations. Ben had just admitted it: there was another one. Another girl. The realization had punched the wind from Alex. His hands, usually steady, were now clasped tightly together, knuckles white. He turned away from Ben, unable to meet his gaze. He began to pace the length of the living room, feeling a strange disconnect from his own body. Each step felt heavy, like wading through molasses. The familiar comfort of his home suddenly felt alien.
