The phone felt impossibly heavy in her hand. The screen glowed with the message – *“I need to tell you something…”* – from the other woman. The revelation, when it came, had hit her like a physical blow. Now, she sat in her car, the engine off, the keys still in the ignition. She stared straight ahead, the familiar street outside her apartment building looking strange and unfamiliar. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to fight back the overwhelming feeling of… of *what*? Betrayal? Anger? Disbelief? It was all too much.
