Michael reread the invitation three times, each pass making him feel smaller. He hadn't thought about Northwood High in years. He’d built a life, a career, a reputation; things he'd painstakingly constructed, brick by agonizing brick. It was a life built away from the ghosts of his youth. The flyer felt like a hand reaching out to drag him back to that desolate place.

He slammed his fist on his desk, scattering papers. He was annoyed at his reaction. His heartbeat hammered against his ribs. His assistant poked her head into his office. "Everything alright, Mr. Thompson?" He took a long, deep breath and managed a forced smile. "Perfectly fine, Sarah. Just… a bit of a headache."
