Gemotions

The doorbell chimed, a cheery sound that seemed completely out of sync with the knot forming in Eleanor’s stomach. It was the mailman, delivering the dreaded invitation. She gripped the cold doorknob, forcing herself to open the door, then took the envelope with a hand that wasn’t quite steady.

She went to her bedroom, sat at the edge of the bed, and stared at the door. Twenty years… so much had happened. She wished that her husband was home. He had a way of easing her worries. She picked up a framed picture of her and her husband and began to hug it, closing her eyes.
