The small coffee shop, her place, her life, was now “The Daily Grind.” The new owner, smug and dressed in expensive clothes, stood behind the counter with an identical recipe board to the one she had. The smell of freshly brewed coffee, once a comfort, now felt like a taunt. Her famous muffins, “Sunrise Delights,” were now “Morning Glory Muffins.”

She stopped at the door, her hands clenching. The scene before her felt distorted, unreal. She pressed a hand against the doorframe for support.

She turned and began to walk away, her pace slow, deliberate, as if each step required a monumental effort.
