Gemotions

The thought of it lingered like a physical weight. Sarah was trying to sound casual, but her heart was hammering. The open journal. She knew. She felt a burning ache in her chest. She couldn't meet the gaze of her roommate, Emily, even as Emily's voice sounded from across the room.

She wanted to scream. She wanted to yell. But she was frozen, rooted in place. She felt trapped in her own body. She mumbled something and turned away, fumbling for her bag.

She had to get out, away from the scene of the crime. She slammed the door behind her, as if to physically sever the connection. The campus courtyard offered a small semblance of peace, and yet the air felt tainted, and even that space seemed to echo with her betrayal.
