He stared at the ancestry website, the graphic representations of his DNA segments swimming before his eyes. He felt a disorientation. It was as if his very foundation had crumbled beneath him.

He slammed his laptop shut, the abrupt sound echoing in the empty room. He needed to be alone, to process this. He wandered aimlessly through his apartment, unable to settle. Everything was different.

He sat down heavily on his bed, his head in his hands. He felt a potent sense of loss, a grief for a past he had never truly known. He wanted to feel solid and stable again.
