He hadn't slept in two days. The patent denial was a constant presence in his mind. The automated drone delivery system, his breakthrough, was, shockingly, old news. He felt the tension coiled tight in his shoulders, a physical manifestation of his distress. He scrubbed his face with his hands.

He sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the floor. The walls of his apartment seemed to be closing in. He felt a strange sort of heat flush through his body, making him restless. He needed to be alone, to think, to... *anything* but face this truth.
