“Are you sure?” His voice, a thin thread of sound, barely registered above the low hum of the computer lab. Liam felt the blood pulsing erratically in his temples. The professor, his face creased with an apologetic expression, just nodded. The scholarship, the only thing keeping him from dropping out, was wrongly assigned. Liam felt a sudden, inexplicable heat flush his cheeks. He fumbled with the mouse, his fingers clumsy and uncooperative. The screen blurred before his eyes. He squeezed them shut, trying to regain control. His stomach churned. The clattering of keyboards and the click of the mouse seemed to grow louder, each sound an assault on his frayed nerves. He bolted from his chair, a raw panic rising within him.
