He slammed the file shut, the sound echoing in the cramped office. It was the only sound. He stared at the administrator, his jaw clenched. The man's words, delivered with detached professionalism, had been a punch to the gut. The scholarship was gone. It had never been his. The injustice of it all, the years of hard work, felt suffocating. He felt a sudden, almost overwhelming urge to scream, to lash out. He pushed himself up from the chair, his movements stiff. The world swam before his eyes. He stumbled out into the hallway, the fluorescent lights seeming to pulse and throb. He needed air, needed space, needed… something. He found himself walking faster, his pace quickening with each step.
