Gemotions

The world seemed to spin around Chloe as she sat on the park bench, the rejection letter crumpled in her trembling fist. She tasted bile at the back of her throat. She stared at the vibrant green of the leaves, usually a source of joy, and all she saw was a blur.

The other people in the park, laughing children, amorous couples, seemed to exist in a different reality, oblivious to the hollow ache in her chest. She had envisioned the book launch, the book signings, the validation. Now, the weight of her ambition, her years of effort, seemed unbearable. She felt a profound loneliness, a sense of isolation she couldn't explain.

She pulled her knees to her chest, trying to make herself smaller, less visible, a fugitive from her own dreams.
