The air tasted metallic, like fear. The small space seemed to shrink with every passing minute. Sarah found herself staring at the elevator's control panel, her mind replaying the moment the lights had flickered and died. She kept replaying the events in her mind.

She ran her fingers over the buttons, though she knew they wouldn’t work. The fear was a physical presence, a knot in her stomach that tightened with each creak and groan of the elevator. She wanted to scream, but the scream just caught in her throat.
