Gemotions

The air conditioning blasted cold air, but it did nothing to lessen the heat that had flared up in Angela’s cheeks. She had been at the company longer, she had always assumed. Yet, here they were, in a stalemate.

She stared out the window, at the city skyline, a landscape that suddenly seemed unfamiliar, alien. She picked up the phone, then set it down. She had been on the verge of calling her husband, to talk it out, but the words wouldn't come.

A headache began to throb behind her eyes. Every little detail of the day was an irritant; the clacking of keys, the ringing of the telephone, the smell of burnt coffee.
