He stared at the words, the typed confession from his former supervisor, Mr. Peterson. The man had destroyed his career. Years of hard work, gone. But it had taken so long to get here, to receive a simple apology. He'd waited so long.

His hands shook as he reread the letter, the typed words in front of him. A wave of dizziness rolled over him. He felt as if the room was tilting, the walls closing in. He sat down hard, his back against the wall.

A tremor went through him, as if something inside him had broken. He closed his eyes, the words of the letter replaying themselves in his mind. He opened his mouth, but no sound came out.
