He stared at the screen, the listing a cruel joke. The house was unrecognizable. The old oak tree in the front yard, where he'd spent countless hours as a boy, was gone. Replaced by a bland, generic maple.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to do something, anything, to make the image on the screen go away. He gripped the edge of the kitchen counter, his knuckles white. The digital tour of the house was a violation.

He rubbed his temples, a headache blooming behind his eyes. The world seemed to tilt slightly, the familiar landscape of his present life suddenly distorted and unreal.
