“Well, this is… unexpected,” David said, his voice unusually thin. He felt a sudden, intense chill, despite the warm spring air. The photographs of the house, his house, flickered on the screen.

He sank back in his chair, his body suddenly heavy. He couldn't remember the last time he felt so grounded, so rooted. The memories, once carefully filed away, now threatened to spill over, flooding his senses.

He found himself struggling to swallow, his throat constricted. He thought of calling his sister, but the thought of speaking, of explaining, seemed too monumental.
