Gemotions

He couldn’t sleep. The information, a low-level robbery with a violent ending, swirled in his head. The previous tenants – victims, really – were just names on a document, but now they occupied his thoughts. He kept seeing their faces, imagining their fear, feeling their pain.

He sat up in bed, the sheets tangled around his legs. The moonlight cast long, distorted shadows across the bedroom floor. He got out of bed, and went to the kitchen, seeking a glass of water.

He walked to the window, staring out at the empty street. He felt vulnerable, exposed. He wondered what else the house was hiding. He shivered, pulling his robe tighter.
