The doctor leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowed. "This is highly unusual, Mr. Davies," he said, holding up the scan. It was *his* diagnosis. Or, what was supposed to be *his* diagnosis.

A tremor went through him, an unsettling wave of unease. He felt as though the world was tilting on its axis. He couldn’t speak. He couldn’t seem to process the events.

He picked up his pen and tapped it nervously on the desk. He felt exposed, vulnerable, as though he was standing naked in front of a firing squad.
