The digital clock on the bedside table glared at him: 2:17 AM. Michael couldn't sleep. The financial records he'd discovered in the locked drawer were a constant weight on his mind. He sat up, the sheets twisting around his legs.

He felt a profound sense of disorientation, as though he'd woken up in someone else's life. He remembered a thousand small moments, a hundred subtle cues that now seemed to take on a whole new meaning. He saw every little lie with such clarity.

He got out of bed, the floorboards cold beneath his feet. He didn't know what to do, what to say. His brain felt scrambled, like wires disconnected and sparking.
