The attic air tasted of dust and forgotten things. Rain lashed against the windowpanes, mimicking the chaotic drumming inside Clara’s chest. She clutched the yellowed paper, her mother's handwriting a familiar ghost against her palm. ‘Swim with dolphins,’ it said. Clara had always envisioned her mother as someone who'd be afraid of the ocean. Now, staring at the loopy script, she felt a strange, unsettling ripple spread through her.

Her fingers traced the words, the ink blurring slightly from a tear that escaped her eye. The list went on: 'Learn to play the ukulele,' 'Visit the Grand Canyon,' 'Tell Michael she loved him.' Michael. The old boyfriend her mother had never remarried. Clara’s breath hitched. She hadn't known.

Pulling the list closer, she felt a sudden chill, despite the heat of the attic. The silence of the house pressed in on her. Each item felt like a tiny, unfinished story, a secret her mother had carried close. What would she do with this newfound knowledge?
