Mr. Thompson opened the box to find a model ship, meticulously crafted. He recognized the craftsmanship immediately: It was from a former student, Caleb, who had always been a quiet loner. He had disappeared shortly after graduating.

He stood there, staring at the miniature vessel, his hands instinctively clenching into fists. The level of detail was astounding, the miniature rigging perfect. It was a beautiful piece, and yet, he felt a knot of anxiety tighten in his stomach.

He spun around in a circle, trying to find some semblance of calm. The sudden realization that he was alone in the room, with only the ship and his thoughts for company, was alarming. He needed to be around people. He headed to the staff room.
