The doctor’s office felt like a pressure cooker. The information, so dense, so terrifying, had left him feeling… off-kilter. Kevin found himself walking the streets, aimlessly, avoiding eye contact with passers-by. The bustling city, usually a source of excitement, now filled him with a restless anxiety.

He stopped, abruptly, at a bus stop. A young woman was sitting there, fiddling with a pen. He noticed she kept sketching the same shape: a spiral. He recognized the shape.

Their eyes met. She looked away, then back, and finally, she said, her voice quiet, “It’s… It’s the worst, isn’t it?”
