Gemotions

It was a beautiful day, the sun shining, the birds singing, and yet he felt a chill. He opened the capsule cautiously. The metallic smell, musty and damp, filled his nostrils. His breath hitched in his throat.

Inside, nestled amongst brittle newspaper clippings, was a single, tarnished locket. He opened it and his vision seemed to blur. Inside, a miniature portrait of a young woman with his eyes stared back at him. His skin felt too tight.

He stumbled backwards, the locket falling from his grasp and landing with a dull thud. His entire existence seemed to be tilting. He felt a deep, unnerving sense of disassociation, a profound sense of loss he couldn't explain.
