"Mom, look!" Sarah's niece, Emily, presented her with a vibrant painting. It was a chaotic mess of swirling colours, with a single, clear shape in the middle: a six-armed, winged being made of pure starlight. It was unmistakably, and terrifyingly, Celestial, the protector of the skies who Sarah had spent hours drawing and imagining. He'd kept her safe from her own terrors.

Sarah’s chest felt tight, constricted. She wanted to laugh. To cry. To scream. All at once.

"Who is this, Em?" she asked, her voice cracking.

Emily beamed. "That's Starwing! He says hello to you!"

Sarah stared at the picture, the colour draining from her face. She felt like she'd been plunged into icy water. Her hands trembled. This was... impossible. Utterly, undeniably, impossible.
