“Uncle Ben, look what I drew!” his nephew Leo announced, thrusting a crayon sketch into his face. Ben squinted at the drawing, a chaotic jumble of lines and colours that coalesced into the form of… Captain Crumbles. A pirate captain that Ben swore was a secret to the world.

Ben couldn't seem to get his bearings. The world tilted slightly. He fought to remain composed, but his muscles felt like lead. His heart thundered in his chest.

"Who… is this?" he asked, feeling as if the words were being forced out of him.

Leo pointed with an excited grin. "Captain Crumbles! He helps me find buried treasure in the garden."

Ben felt a sudden need to check the garden, to confirm the absurdity of the situation. He felt a sharp wave of nausea. This was... bewildering.
