He had been so sure. Liam had poured his heart and soul into the scholarship application, believing it was his ticket to a better future. The rejection email flashed across his phone screen. He froze mid-stride in the crowded hallway, his backpack slipping from his shoulder. Everything seemed to tilt. The cacophony of voices and the rush of students around him faded into a dull hum. He felt a disconnect, as if he were observing himself from a distance, numb and hollow. He couldn’t seem to process the meaning of the words.
