He had been telling his online friend, SparkleQueen, about the awful date he just had. Now he saw her, across the crowded bar, laughing with a group of friends. It was her. The same bright eyes, the same infectious smile. He knew the way she tilted her head when she was amused.

His breath hitched. He felt an intense desire to both approach and disappear. He found himself unable to move, frozen in place. He felt a strange disconnect, like he was watching a movie of his own life.

He abruptly grabbed his jacket and bolted out the back door, leaving his untouched drink on the table.
