Gemotions

The news hit Sarah like a physical blow. She'd been admiring the sunset, sipping a glass of wine on her porch. Now, the glass slipped from her numb fingers, shattering on the flagstone. A fence. She wanted to laugh, but the sound caught in her throat.

Her face flushed crimson. She imagined the loss of the view of the lake, now hidden behind wooden planks. She felt the sudden urge to run, to escape. She couldn't believe it. This couldn’t be happening.

She stood frozen, the shards of glass reflecting the dying light.
