The office was quiet, unnaturally so. Sarah felt a peculiar fluttering in her stomach as she walked into the lab. The lab, her mentor, Professor Chen, and his projects were her life. The usual organized chaos was absent; papers were scattered across the workbench. His chair was pushed back, a half-finished experiment sat on the counter.
