The interview had gone so well, or so she'd thought. Emily had felt a genuine connection with the hiring manager. Now, staring at the screen, the cursor blinked mockingly, as if it was taunting her.

Her breath hitched in her chest. She found herself clutching the table. She felt disconnected. It was like watching a movie of her own life.

She stood up abruptly, her chair scraping against the floor. Without thinking, she walked towards the front door. The cool, spring air didn't help. She felt like she was trapped.
