Gemotions

As the bride and groom began to cut the cake, Michael noticed her. She stood off to the side, looking completely at ease, her eyes sparkling, seemingly having a wonderful time. It was Emily, and the sight of her sent a jolt through his entire system.

He froze, his forkful of cake forgotten. The sweetness turned sour in his mouth. He felt the blood drain from his face, leaving him feeling lightheaded and vaguely ill.

He took a large step back, as if she were a physical threat. He needed to disappear, to get away from the painful reminder of a past he had tried to bury. He wanted to forget he'd seen her, that she existed.
