The musty smell of the basement was familiar, but today, something felt different. Ethan ran his hand through his hair, a nervous habit he hadn't realized he still had. He’d been tasked with cleaning out his childhood home. He'd expected the usual clutter, but he certainly hadn't expected this.

He cautiously opened a box labeled "Ethan - Elementary." His mouth went dry. Inside, a history of his scholastic endeavors lay before him. Tests, projects, spelling quizzes. Each paper spoke volumes. He felt a sudden, inexplicable ache in his stomach.

He picked up a book report on a book he barely remembered. He remembered the struggle to write it. The relief when it was finished. He felt a shiver run down his spine, a coldness spreading from his core. He hadn't realized his mother had kept everything. He wondered what this meant. What was she trying to do?
