"Kevin Peters," she read aloud, her voice barely a whisper. The name, a name that once brought a tidal wave of dread, now brought a different feeling. Her hands clenched into fists, her knuckles turning white.

She instinctively reached for the closest object: her stress ball. She squeezed it with all her might. The plastic began to creak, a sound that oddly calmed her. The color drained from her face, leaving her feeling detached from the world around her.

She picked up her phone and dropped it again, unable to decide what to do. The screen went dark, and the notification vanished, yet the image was seared in her mind.
