The air in the jewelry store was thick with the scent of perfume and polished gold. I’d come to pick out a ring with Michael, my fiancé. Then, another woman entered, her hand intertwined with Michael's. They were laughing. The woman pointed at a ring, and Michael nodded, smiling. The woman, whose face I now recognized from Michael's social media, and Michael, stopped when they noticed me. My breath hitched. The world tilted and swirled, and I grasped at the nearest glass display case for balance. The bright lights seemed to throb.
