Gemotions

The waiter, smiling, placed two plates of pasta in front of us. Across the table, Alex smiled back. Then, the door opened, and a woman I knew quite well – his sister – walked in, accompanied by a man I didn’t know. The man was holding hands with Alex’s sister. Alex’s face paled. The world began to close in around me, the restaurant’s lively atmosphere instantly becoming suffocating. My hands went numb. I didn't know whether to scream or to run. I just stared, frozen in place, at the tableau before me.
