Gemotions

The rain hammered against the windows of the small café where Daniel was reading. He'd bought the book, a worn edition of “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” from a secondhand shop. He found the letter at chapter 7. He stopped reading.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable heat flush his cheeks. His vision seemed to tunnel, focusing solely on the words scrawled across the paper. He could not look away. He closed his eyes, then opened them again, as if the reality of it would somehow shift.
