He’d almost missed it, the envelope tucked away amongst the junk mail. Michael caught sight of the familiar crest and his blood went cold. He reread the words, as though doing so would somehow alter their meaning.

He sank into the nearest chair. The room spun slightly. He felt disoriented. It was just a silly reunion. Why did it feel like a summons? He reached for the glass of water on the table, but his hand was shaking too badly.

He closed his eyes, his mind instantly flooded with images, sounds, feelings, all from a past he had worked so hard to distance himself from. He thought he had outrun them.
